LDAP + Thunderbird
Submitted by Anonymous on Thu, 19/02/2009
hi,
raf reported that he got ldap address book search running in thunderbird (see here) with the following input data:
* Hostname: ldapcst.ua.ac.be
* Base DN: OU=Employees,OU=UA-Users,DC=ad,DC=ua,DC=ac,DC=be
* Port number: 3268
* Bind DN: your-ua-username@ad.ua.ac.be
the ldap server could as well be ldapcde.ua.ac.be i think, at least that's what we used to organize login at the shiny departmental website.
anyway, i couldn't get it running. anyone else with more luck?
cheers,
nico

LDAP settings
Hooray!
I got LDAP working in OS X Mail.
But not after 1 year of problems...
I entered the settings, but for ldapcde (Campus Drie Eiken).
In mail preferences, select "Composing" and check the box "Automatically complete addresses". Click "Configure LDAP".
Click "+" and enter:
Name: LDAPCDE (name doesn't matter
Server: ldapcde.ua.ac.be (use appropriate campus ldap server)
Port: 3268
Use SSL: not checked!
Search Base: OU=Employees,OU=UA-Users,DC=ad,DC=ua,DC=ac,DC=be
Scope: Base
Authentication: Simple
Username: username@ad.ua.ac.be
Password: userpassword
Hopefully it works for other people as well.
Note: Mail will sometimes crash, which is caused by LDAP trying to connect to the network.
I am wondering whether it is necessary to set an LDAP server using the Directory Utility, but I did it anyway (using the same settings). (You can find this application with spotlight or in /Applications/Utilities)
Alternative e-mail client: since a couple of months I've tried Postbox, a brand new (free for now) maili client. This applicartion doesn't seem to work with the same server settings for LDAP, to beconfigured in the application itself.
I'll figure this out later... The advantage however of postbox is that you can migrate your ua mail account to e.g. gmail and set postbox to label your mail folders as gmail "labels", so you won't loose folder information.
on wiki?
Got it!
Wow, finally it's working. I don't really know what I was doing wrong, as things seem to work alright with the original configuration. May be that I didn't notice that one has to have a UA IP address when trying to connect... Hm.
Anyway, it's now all posted on the new wiki. Addenda welcome!
ldap
It worked for me for a while; but since a few days it stopped. I'm looking into it now. Hope I get it going again.
Will keep you up to date
Gerd
Works okay here
Hi Gerd,
I just tried it and it still seems to work, so you might wanna check your configuration.
Cheers,
Nico
