MATLAB version requirement

Hi there,

Thanks for uploading the newest version of matlab2tikz, however, I found the MATLAB version requirement too stringent... many of us are still using R2008 or even earlier ones, so some backward compatibility will be much appreciated!

Hm, some of the new functions that are used from the latest release are for convenience really, so there's nothing that's strictly required -- I think. You can just try and comment out the version check, maybe for the plots that you are doing, nothing of 2010a is effectively used.
I'm running 2010a myself which is why I'm not aware of the errors that occur when using something earlier.

Hi Nico,
First: Great Job on this script! It's great to be able to produce clean latex documents. Thank you!

Second: I am using MatLab version 7.4.0.287 (R2007a) and with the new script I am also getting errors.
I commented out the version check and sustituted a ~ in "[~,idx]=min(dist);" and similars for a dummy variable which I called "nada" to have "[nada,idx]=min(dist);" because matlab was complaining but still getting errors..

Luckily I found a version I had downloaded back in January this same year and am using it no problem!

So this is just a heads up for backwards compatibility, if you are interested in it. Otherwise if you could just leave a copy of an earlier version for older Matlab versions that would be great!

Here are the errors I got from Matlab if they are of your interest.
------------------------
>> matlab2tikz( 'pctgestudiN.tikz');
??? Error: File: matlab2tikz.m Line: 3992 Column: 17
Expression or statement is incorrect--possibly unbalanced (, {, or [.

>> matlab2tikz( 'pctgestudiN.tikz');
??? Error using ==> matlab2tikz at 66
You need at least MATLAB R2009b to run this script.

>> matlab2tikz( 'pctgestudiN.tikz');
??? Error: File: pgfplotsEnvironment.m Line: 4 Column: 10
A class definition must be in an "@" directory.

Error in ==> matlab2tikz at 93
m2t.content = pgfplotsEnvironment();
-------------------

If you need any assistance in testing on the earlier matlab version I'm willing to give you feedback.

Again, thanks for such a great script, Greetings from Barcelona, Spain.

,Pau Coma

Yeah well, I indeed don't have the possibility to test the script on older MATLAB® versions as I have a recent version installed.
MATLAB® 2007a sounds really ancient, and I'd almost like to say that never worked. For the input option handling I guess 2009a or something like that is required. I can't remove that section of the code either.
I'd suggest you to upgrade then I guess. :)

Hey, I'll also be in Barcelona on a conference from Sunday on! I won't have much leisure time I guess, but is there anything I shouldn't miss?

Cheers,
Nico

Hey,
Well thanks for the reply anyway.. I already found how to download an earlier version. so Version 0.0.5 Works on my Matlab version.

So coming to barcelona! we had nice sun these last days, temperatures are going up :) Well to be able to see the city from a far I would recomend two points which should be a visit...

Parc Guell: this is a parc designed by Gaudi back in the days. It's really nice, relaxing to just walk around the paths while enjoying the art and at the same time you have a view of barcelona from the mountain side towards the sea (west->east)

:To get to parc guell you will need to get a bus.

Mont-Juic: if I remember correctly from the bottom there should be a kind of cable car elevator where while you make it up to the castle to see the castle you can view barcelona from the south-east side to the north-west.

:To get to montjuic you can get close by metro but then either you take the cable car elevator or a bus up.. or you can walk.

I don't know if they have started already but normally at night, around 23:00 or 00:00 on firdays at least.. at the fountains close to the palacio (Metro stop plaza Espanya) They have a fountain show with music and lights.. it's very nice to see.

:It's on the way to Mont-juic you'll pass by two towers on the way to mont-juic, if you go by bus or on foot.. its right after the towers you'll see.

Obviously you can't go to barcelona without walking down the ramblas.

:metro stop to plaza catalunya and then walk towards the see untill you reach colon.

Then there is the obvious: sagrada familia but some people prefer just to see it from outside because of the long cues that normally are there.

If you enjoy the beach and people around you have got the playa Icaria which is normall full, on tuesdays and thursday afternoons they have free voleyball courses.

A calmer beach might be "playa barceloneta"

If you are willing to go to the outskirts or barcelona.. I would recomend

--Sitges for a small town with culture and nice beach and people.

: train from barcelona to there takes 40 minutes approx. Last train back is around 10pm.. so don't miss it. next one it at 4am.. taxi will cost you well over 50 euros to get back into barcelona. but then again there are buses.

--Montserrat is also a very nice mountain which you can take a train or cable car up.. or by bus or car.. or even walking.. anyway.. nice to see the mountains and have a walk.. for this trip you should reserve

1 hour bus trip to there.. 1 hour trip back.
30 minutes to get up and 30 to get down.. the stay there should at least be 2 or 3 hours.. you can do a nice walk in the mountains for an hour or 2.

Anyway, there are plenty things to do in barcelona as you can see.. I'm almost writing a novel here.. hope not to have saturated you with info..

Remember:

Parc Guell, ramblas, mont juic .. these I would recomend.. close to the end of the ramblas there is also a nice art museum of some famous artist I forgot now..

Cheers
